Effects of Technology

Technology was the biggest influence human society had during the history. From the ancient times, technologies were used in many spheres of life. As the time was passing by, technologies were more and more influencing human-related areas. Eventually, technologies became an inseparable part of our life, making it safe and comfortable.

Each technological invention was usually directed at a specific area of life, having little relation to other ones. The twentieth century introduced technology that affected all spheres of our life, and its name is a computer. Nowadays it has a lot of varieties, including personal computers, laptops, netbooks, nettops, database servers, tablet computers etc. Computers appear everywhere, affecting people of all ages, allowing using less human resources and applying smarter approach to a number of cases.

Innovations in manufacture were always in the first place, since they allowed decreasing the overall cost of production, increasing the volumes of produced goods and simplifying people’s work. Computers made their own contribution to this area. Previously, the process of the production cycle was monitored by people, who could not follow absolutely everything, making mistakes and often leading to malfunctioning of the process. Computers simplified our lives, replacing operators and controlling all the processes involved in the same place. For example, a car producing plant can have hundreds or thousands of workers, who only need to do the simple actions that cannot be fulfilled by computers. The rest part is done by computers, allowing people to monitor the function and overall performance of the computers. In addition to this, not only are computers used in the production process, but also during the salary calculations as well as other accounting and business-related actions.

Computers made a breakthrough in science, especially in medicine. People always endeavored to diagnose an illness as painless and harmless as possible, and the best result was achieved with an introduction of the modern scanners and other computer-run devices. People fulfill a function of running the computers, but the most challenging and time consuming tasks are performed by the computers. They analyze the collected data received from the examinations and supply the doctors with results that have to be evaluated for the final diagnosis. Computer-operated devices like lasers help to treat the deceases considered incurable only a dozen or two years ago.

Computers make the society develop faster, changing the regular traditional steps to the real leaps. We use computers for education, and nowadays children and students cannot imagine working with data or performing the simplest tasks without personal computers. Traditional libraries have limited amounts of books stored, while their online analogs, accessed by means of computers, allow almost unlimited access to any information students might need. Gathering data became easy and fast, so that students may use the free time to analyze it properly or self-educate. Teaching also became interrelated with the usage of computers. New teaching technologies are shared via the internet, multimedia systems allow using audiovisual materials instead of explanations, supported with plain text from the books.

Modern society is considered to be cyber, and computers contributed the most to reach such state. New technologies are developed with computers and shared over the computer networks. Information of all sorts is stored in computers, sorted, analyzed and distributed for the rest of the people. Computers made their contribution to all spheres of our life, and changed it irreversibly. Nowadays this is not just technology, but a part of our life, fully integrated and needed for full-scale functioning of the society. Computers are used to run, manage and control information and remain to be the most valuable resource for the contemporary society. They remain in a stable position and will always participate in the further development of our society.
